The capital of Thailand has no lack of rooftop bars, but the newly opened Escape Bangkok is one you should definitely include in your Bangkok itinerary.
Located on level five of the luxurious EmQuartier, Escape Bangkok stands out with its luxe tropical vibes. Think swirling rattan lanterns, inviting tiki huts and a DJ booth covered with bamboo.
Less than two months old, Escape Bangkok is already a hit with the locals, expats and tourists. The bar opens daily at 5:00pm and the establishment was already half filled when we visited at 5:30pm on a Sunday. Lounge on the sundeck facing Bangkok’s ever-changing skyline, or grab a drink by the bar on one of the high wooden chairs.
Do take note of the minimum spending policy at Escape Bangkok
We were told a minimum spending of THB 1,100/person applies after 7:30pm. I am not sure if that is due to the fact that we had a big group, or it was because of the weekend. However, we managed to secure a table for six people from 5:30pm to 7:00pm, and did not have to hit the minimum spending.
The venue itself boasts several themes and each section exudes a vastly different vibe. Most of Escape’s seats are alfresco, but you can also choose to dine at its indoor area.
Prices at Escape are considered steep for Bangkok’s standards. Expect to pay between THB 220 / SGD 9.30 for a Full Moon Chalawan Pale Ale and THB 320 / SGD 13.50 for a Little Creatures IPA Beer.
Similarly, prices of artisanal cocktails range from THB 300 / SGD 12.65 for a Margarita to THB 360 / SGD 15.20 for a Negroni.
Skip the Margarita if you can. It was so diluted, I thought there was no alcohol in it! I highly recommend the extremely refreshing Mai Tai Tahiti Cocktail (THB 340 / SGD 14.30). It is a semi-sweet handcrafted concoction of lime juice, Cointreau, orange, pineapple, pineapple juice and Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum.
While we didn’t have any food at Escape Bangkok, its menu features a tantalising selection of western bar nosh such as Burrata Tomato Salad (THB 390 / SGD 16.45) and Seafood Marinara (THB 490 / SGD 20.65).
Escape’s food is expensive, but what you are paying for is its location and endless #OOTD opportunities.
